The Structural Geology and Tectonics (SGT) Division at The Geological Society of America (GSA) brings together scientists to advance the study of structural geology and tectonics through collaboration, research, and communication across the earth sciences.
This year, SGT provided a generous $3,000 donation to the On to the Future (OTF) program to support their members. The OTF program provides geoscience scholars the opportunity to attend GSA Connects and engage in professional mentorship, networking, and finding community, by offering travel support, a meeting registration, and a GSA membership.
The following six SGT members will be supported by SGT’s considerable donation: Leena Abdulqader, Adeleye Adedokun, Arjun Bhandari, Oluwasegun Abbey, Alexa Couroux, and Sanjeev Parajuli. SGT’s donation will go a long way in strengthening the careers of their members, as shown by the following quotes from the recipients.
“As an international Muslim woman in geoscience, being recognized by the OTF program affirms that my voice and journey belong in this field. This award allows me to connect, contribute, be visible in spaces where representation truly matters, and pursue science without borders.” – Leena Abdulqader, SGT member and 2025 OTF scholar
“The On to the Future (OTF) award is more than financial support, it’s a bridge to community, mentorship, and greater visibility in the geosciences. I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity to grow, connect, and share my passion for structural geology and tectonics at GSA Connects 2025.” – Adeleye Adedokun, SGT member and 2025 OTF scholar
“As an international PhD student from Nepal, the OTF award is more than just travel support—it is an opportunity to share my research, learn from leading scientists, and bring those insights back to inspire others in my home country. I am deeply grateful to GSA for turning what would have been a financial challenge into a stepping stone for growth, connection, and meaningful contribution to the scientific community.” – Sanjeev Parajuli, SGT member and 2025 OTF scholar
